Sam Masters was delighted to bring the points home for the Monarch Cheetahs on Wednesday night when beating Berwick Bandits 53-37 at Oxford Stadium, writes Izobel Fuller.

Masters scored 14+1 points from his five rides last night, a paid maximum for him as the Cheetahs stretched their lead at the top of the Cab Direct Championship.

Masters said: “Everyone dug really deep and did the job we asked of them. We got the job done in the end and brought the points home which is what matters.”

The Monarch Cheetahs were made to work hard throughout, with bike problems forcing Cameron Heeps to retire in Heat Two.

But the Cheetahs excelled towards the end of the meeting, bringing home three back-to-back 5-1s with Masters involved in two of them.

Sam said: “Scott (Nicholls) chucked in a couple of dummy moves (in Heat 13), and I just held the inside and snuck through at the same time.

“It was a great result , and the track was good given we’d had a mix of weather leading up to the start with the earlier rain and then clear skies.”

Next week the Monarch Cheetahs are back in action on Wednesday, July 12.

Oxford Stadium will host the Edinburgh Monarchs in the Cab Direct Championship.

Masters added: “It will be another challenge when Edinburgh visit. But we’re stoked to be at the top of the table- the boys are doing and awesome job and I’m proud of everyone’s efforts.”
