The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs’ hopes of reaching the end-of-season Championship play-offs ended on Wednesday night following a 40-50 defeat to Berwick Bandits at Oxford Stadium.

Jason Crump and Peter Schroeck’s men required a win against the Bandits to keep slim hopes of finishing inside the Championship’s top six frame alive.

But a 14-point return for visiting number one Chris Harris helped Berwick record a first away win of the season.

Joint Cheetahs Team Manager Peter Schroeck said: “We can have no complaints. We were beaten by the better team on the night – it’s as simple as that.

“It took us a long time to get into the meeting. We fought our way back into the match, and reduced the gap to six points, and I started to think we had a bit of a chance. But then the meeting turned on its head again and Berwick pulled back away again.”

The Monarch Cheetahs return to action on Tuesday, July 19, when hosting Birmingham Brummies in the Championship Jubilee League at Oxford Stadium. Just 24 hours later (July 20), Oxford Chargers host Leicester Lion Cubs in the National Development League.

Tickets for both fixtures are on sale now and can be purchased by clicking here. Adults can gain entry for both meetings for just £24!
