Speedway latest! Cheetahs make it two from two in the Championship

The Monarch Oxford Cheetahs made it two from two in their Cab Direct Championship campaign by beating Birmingham Brummies 36-54 at Perry Barr on Wednesday night.

Led by top pair Sam Masters (12+2) and Scott Nicholls (14), Cheetahs recorded five maximum race advantages on the night and only conceded two heat wins to the hosts.

Reserve Henry Atkins (8+2) played a star role as did Jordan Jenkins (8+3) while Lewis Kerr weighed in with eight points and Cameron Heeps returned with four. Ryan Kinsley ended the night without scoring from three rides.

The result lifts Cheetahs above Scunthorpe into second in the Championship table, albeit all bar three teams are yet to race more than three meetings. Team Manager Peter Schroeck was naturally delighted with the result and hopes to carry forward his side’s positive momentum into the next fortnight.

“We knew we wanted a result from this meeting before it started,” said Schroeck. “Henry, Jordan and Ryan entered the meeting on a real high off the back of three positive results for the Chargers.

“Sam and Scott were in fine form and Lewis and Cameron have been scoring good points for us too.

“It all clicked tonight and as the meeting developed, I felt we just got stronger. Performances like this – and keeping fit until October – can help to define our season. I have every faith in this team and right now the boys are riding the crest of the wave.

“The Championship is our big motivator now. We’re two from two but the next fortnight is very important and we can’t let a couple of good results go to our heads.

“But the positive early signs are there and the boys should be proud of their efforts tonight – they thoroughly deserve it.”
