APRIL GALA RACE NIGHT: Introducing the Oxford Stadium race night ‘Race Night’!

Oxford Stadium is inviting groups of friends, colleagues, families plus sports clubs and community groups to be part of its first ever Greyhound Race Night, on a race night!

The Cowley venue will add a points-scoring twist to its Saturday evening fixture on April 20 where teams of up to 10 people can work together to win a £500 jackpot, a bottle of champagne and a special trophy.

Teams will be tasked with selecting greyhounds who they believe will carry them to the top prize via a six-race qualifying process before a one-off Grand Final decides who will be crowned champions.

No previous experience or knowledge of greyhound racing is necessary with Oxford Stadium’s expert staff – including the Racing Post’s greyhound correspondent Dave Clark – on hand to share a few tips and provide key insights if required.

Kevin Boothby, Oxford Stadium Managing Director, hopes to see a strong turnout on the night and encouraged groups to sign-up fast!

“Our Gala Race Nights this year are proving to be a huge success and showcase everything positive about our greyhound racing operation,” said Kevin.

“Race Nights always provide a good excuse to get together with friends, family or colleagues. So, we’re running our own alternative, but on this occasion the action on track will be live and we have a bunch of great prizes to giveaway.

“We can’t guarantee winners, but we can be sure of lots of fun, laughs and continuing the success story of Oxford Stadium’s remarkable regeneration.”

Doors open on the night at 5.30pm with participating teams asked to be at the stadium for 6.30pm in time for the start of the first qualifying race. Entry for each team is priced £20 and is payable on the night – up to 10 people can be part of one team.

Groups interested in signing up must email Shaun Reynolds via sr@fortitudecommunications.com to register their interest. The Race Night will take place in the stadium’s main complex next to the restaurant dining area.

How it works:

  • Registered teams will be emailed with full confirmation of timings, parking arrangements and rules ahead of the Race Night.
  • Six qualifying races will be held where teams will accumulate points depending on where their chosen greyhound finishes in each respective race.
  • 6pts will be awarded for a race win, 5pts for second, 4pts for third, 3pts for fourth, 1pt for fifth and 0pts for sixth.
  • Each team will be issued with a joker where double points apply for one race only!
  • The six teams with the most points after qualifying will advance to a Grand Final where the evening’s winners will be decided with a chance to meet and present a trophy to the winning greyhound of the Grand Final race.

See you on Saturday, April 20!
