Oxford’s longest serving taxi company 001 Taxis has been confirmed as Oxford Stadium’s first key partnership ahead of the multi-purpose venue’s reopening this year.

Operating a growing fleet of 450 taxis, 001 Taxis has been transporting customers to destinations across the UK from Oxfordshire for over 50 years.

The partnership will see the Cowley-based firm become Oxford Stadium’s ‘Official Taxi Provider’ to ensure everyone in the county has easy access to and from the facility for race nights, community events and leisure activities.

A butler will be on-site at all times too so visitors can instantly access a cab with taxis readily available directly from the venue on busy evenings.

Eddie Measey, Head of Development at 001 Taxis, said: “The reopening of Oxford Stadium is fantastic news for the city, and we are thrilled to be part of this exciting regeneration project.

“For decades, transporting racegoers, speedway fans and other members of the community to and from Oxford Stadium was a core part of our service.

“Our staff have fond memories of the stadium, so it was only natural for us to agree a partnership and we look forward to working with the team.”

Oxford Stadium’s facilities will include a community café, three dance studios, track-side VIP suites, a panorama restaurant, a sports bar, saunas, steam rooms and a jacuzzi.

A mental health and wellbeing charity will also manage a wellness centre dedicated to improving the lives of visitors by helping them reach their full potential through various community-based programmes.

“We’re continually exploring ways to work with local businesses and sports clubs to fulfil our development vision,” added Eddie. “The plans Kevin (Boothby, Managing Director) and his team have in place to transform Oxford Stadium into an inclusive, seven-day-a-week, multi-purpose venue are really exciting.

“It will act as a significant facility for the people of Blackbird Leys and Oxford while attracting visitors across the county and wider to its high-profile sports fixtures and leading community events.

“We look forward to its reopening later this week and can’t wait to see how the project develops.”

Lisa Hust, Commercial Operations Manager at Oxford Stadium, added: “The enthusiasm of Eddie and his colleagues demonstrates what our reopening means to local organisations and people.

“We’re pleased to be working with 001 Taxis who will be prominently placed for all occasions at Oxford Stadium as part of our commitment to making the facility accessible to everyone.

“We look forward to developing this relationship and confirming more partnerships very soon.”

Based on Transport Way in Cowley, 001 Taxis is Oxford’s longest serving and largest taxi provider operating a growing fleet of 450 vehicles.
