Oxford Stadium ready to hosts the stars as two Category One competitions announced

The world’s fastest greyhounds will travel to Oxford Stadium this year to compete in two major Category One competitions – the highest calibre event in UK greyhound racing.

The Cowley venue will host the RPGTV Cowley Puppy Collar (450 metres) on Friday nights in October and the bet365 Challenge Cup (650 metres) on Fridays in December.

Each competition will accommodate 48 greyhounds and feature eight qualifying heats with the top three dogs from each heat advancing to Round Two. Round Two qualifiers will progress to the Semi-Finals which is followed a week later by a £10,000 to the winner Grand Final.

Kevin Boothby, Oxford Stadium MD, said each competition will be hotly contested and attract bumper crowds to the venue’s terraces, bars and restaurant.

“This is a breakthrough moment for greyhound racing in Oxford now that the stadium is open and hosting racing three times each week,” said Kevin. “Category One competitions are the pinnacle of our sport, and what every greyhound trainer and owner in the country aspires to win.

“We believe Oxford has the potential to establish itself as the best greyhound racing track in the country and hosting the highest quality racing is key if we are to realise that vision.

“Response to our launch has been overwhelmingly positive and already a number of greyhounds have caught the eye of punters who I am sure will be making their ante-post selections when declarations are confirmed.

“Of course, none of this would be possible without the tremendous support of our valued sponsors who we appreciate greatly.”

All RPGTV Cowley Puppy Collar and bet365 Challenge Cup races will be broadcast live globally via Racing Post Greyhound TV.
