Multiple candidates are being hired by Oxford Stadium to join a dedicated team of staff responsible for ensuring the highest standards of greyhound welfare and integrity.

The Cowley venue is recruiting Racing Office Stewards, Paddock Stewards and Track Staff in advance of greyhound racing’s planned return to Oxford in July following a 10-year absence.

Roles will be part-time initially, with a view to turning full-time once the stadium’s racing schedule is expanded later this year. Full training will be provided for all roles by Oxford Stadium’s experienced and qualified team where necessary.

Racing Office Stewards and Paddock Stewards will work to ensure race nights are operated in line with the Greyhound Board of Great Britain’s (GBGB) strict rules and regulations. Track Staff will be responsible for preparing and maintaining the safest racing surface possible.

Oxford Stadium Racing Manager Kiaran O’Brien said the roles are perfect for jobseekers wishing to work in an exciting and professional environment where new and existing skillsets can be developed.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for people in Oxford to be at the heart of our stadium’s regeneration,” said Kiaran. “We’re looking for bright, talented and friendly individuals with a passion for greyhounds who wish to be part of our exciting team.

“It is essential our race meetings prioritise greyhound welfare and care and operate to the highest levels of integrity to ensure we meet the Greyhound Board of Great Britain’s Rules of Racing regulations.

“A basic knowledge and passion for greyhound racing would be advantageous, but we are committed to providing internal training and progression pathways both at Oxford and in partnership with our sister venue Towcester – home of the English Greyhound Derby.”

Stadium bosses plan to reinstall greyhound racing in July following the sport’s 10-year absence from the city.

Race nights will be held on Fridays initially before being expanded to Saturday nights as well. Plans are also in place to host meetings on Sundays and Tuesdays before the turn of the year.

Two major Category One competitions – the highest standard of greyhound racing – will also be held with £10,000 first prizes agreed for events over 450 metres and 645 metres in partnership with bet365.

Kiaran added: “Oxford Stadium has the potential and facilities to be the best greyhound racing track in the country.

“The stadium has an outstanding history and is easily accessible for people living close to our doors and within the stadium’s immediate vicinity who are in search of a fun night out.

“We want to deliver the best race night experience possible, and our team of racing office, paddock and track staff will be integral to ensuring we fulfil this objective.”
