Everyone at Oxford Stadium is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Maurice Newman – a legend in and outside the greyhound racing community.
Maurice passed away on Sunday evening, aged 87, and leaves a huge hole in the sport as a lifetime enthusiast, former trainer and owner and Great Ormond Street Hospital fundraiser.
It was our privilege to welcome Maurice to Oxford Stadium this year and our thoughts are firmly with his close friends and family plus those who knew him at this sad time.
Oxford Stadium Managing Director Kevin Boothby paid his own tribute.
He said: “Maurice will be desperately missed by so many people which is testament to his character, impact and status within greyhound racing and as a GOSH fundraiser.
“He was a key supporter of Oxford Stadium’s regeneration, and we are so thankful Maurice was able to attend our launch night in September in the company of so many people who were proud to class Maurice as a dear friend.
“Maurice was a top man who made time for everyone and we’ll all miss him greatly.”
